Our exquisite easel is a testament to the strange creatures and life in “The Sargasso Sea”. Accentuated by deep-blue waters, it is a two-million-square-mile ellipse adrift in the North Atlantic Ocean. The Sargasso is a sea of floating algae or weed; the weed was ultimately dubbed with the Portuguese word sargassum. This weed is neither sturdy nor abundant but it does live in the warm, exceptionally clear water of the sea. The Sargasso Sea drifts in its’ location determined by the changing ocean currents that form its perimeter. The sea has been described as an ocean desert with an intricate web of life that has adapted to existence among the weed.
